Can anyone tell me how to remove the pinion gear on a 2244 Massey. I have a book but it is only a parts book. Do I have to remove engine and transmission or can it be accessed another way.

Yes, I was talking about the bevel and pinion for the rear end. Anyhow, I ordered a book today for the crawler and hopefully can figure out how to remove it. I have a source here in the states for parts once I determine exactly what I need. Thanks for the reply though.

From memory,I think you have to remove the pinion up thru the top of gearbox. The circlip around it's bearing is awkward to get to.The bevel requires removing the final/steering units,& the steer fork on one side.
Those steer forks can be rusted in & are often hard to move.I cut mine out,but I was dismantling the machine, not repairing it.
I think St Joseph Equipment used to be MF agents...they helped me with info.

Are you talking about Bevel & Pinion?
I have a good used set here (Australia) if needed.
I took mine out of a mostly dismantled unit & that was hard enough.
Jim
