I have a 480D Case Backhoe. I have a 24" bucket that has three positions for the links to fasten to. My owners manual says that one is for truck loading and the other is for trenching. What is the third mounting position for?

Newer hoes have more curl angle and only need one position like track hoes. The 3 positions on the older hoes are Straight wall, Truck loading and Power digging which gives you the most digging force. The power digging position is the bottom hole with the link the longest. The pivots further apart give more force. Dave

I don't KNOW, but a guess would be the three holes are for more powerful curl (widest spacing), Truck loading (middle) and verticle wall (narrowest spacing).

My JD manual says the third position is for vertical wall digging. Last hole down on boom and last hole down on bucket. For digging next to foundations. JD 555

I don't think so. The mounting holes are in the bucket and all have bushings. The connection links will work in all three positions. Thanks for the input.
