My husband and I are buying some property and the seller is leaving a 1939 Catepiller road grader. It appears to be in original condition and he says it runs. We are trying to get some idea of the value and demand for this type of equipment. The seller says he ran an ad for it @ $700 and got 40 people fighting over it so decided not to sell...It is located in Oregon. Any infomation would be appreciated or suggestions as to how we might find the value. We are city slickers! Thanks.

You could also list it on ACMOC--Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owner's Club

Your best bet is to try to get it to run,1st. After that, depending on the outcome of that, take some pictures and put it on ebay...if it's running and operating, who knows how high it'll go? Thing is,it's all about how bad someone else wants it. You'll stand a good chance of getting a fair price out of it on ebay.

Thanks. I hadn"t thought of ebay. We will see what it takes to get it running.

You will also need to identify what model you have. They made two models with four cylinder engines and one with 6-cylinder.
The model number and serial number should be on a plate on the right rear of the cylinder block and on the left front side of the frame.
Old graders don't seem to fetch a lot of money unless they are something exceptional. $2,500 - $3,500 is typical and yes ebay would probably be your best shot.
