is the parking brake for the 580k inside the transaxle? does everything have to be removed to fix it, or can it be done with the transaxle in place?

You need to determine if your 580K is a series 1 or series 2.If it is a series 1 it will have the disc assy. If it is a series 2 it will be internal.Ether one is repairable without removing the transaxleexcept if the splines are completely worn out on the series 1then you will need to replace the ring and pinion as that shaft is the end of the pinion shaft. If you need my help email me at douglasmcgalliard@yahoo.com

soon as the weather gets better I will see what I need. I just have to figure out if I need to drain the fluid first

I have a 580K and the park brake is on the front of the transaxle. It is just below the driveshaft and is a disc type brake. I don't know what you need but I have a used complete assembly that I will sell.
