We are working on an AC HD-4 that has been sitting for 20 years. We put new filters on, new batteries, new diesel, etc. We are getting fuel at the injectors but it never seems to fire. Does anyone have any ideas why it might not be firing.

sounds like low comp to me too, if you can squirt some oil in the intake and let it work its way to the rings she'll prob crank, go easy on the oil ya dont wanna hydraulic the thing, if you can get it to hit on 2cyls the rest will take care of themselves.
P.S. 24volts might help too!

Jef, I've had better results spraying WD-40 into the air inlet, than using starting fluid with my HD-4. If you got fuel at the injectors and smoke when cranking, you must have at least got most of the air out of the fuel system. Mine was really tough to get all the air out.

Thanks - will try that. Since I started this discussion I have taken the pump off and found it to be a little gummed up - once we get that rebuilt we will see if she fires.

Jef W//Could try blowing starter fluid across intake while cranking do it sparingly i am not in favor of it but it dose work.Have battery at full charge. Are you getting white smoke out of stack? Boost from another vehicle if possible.

Thanks again - yes we did try that before and we have a battery charger on the batteries as we crank the engine. After cranking for a bit we get white smoke.

Jef//Sounds like low compresion either lost oil seal between rings and wall or valves hung open. Dose it crank even or have varence in rotation witch would indicate stuck valves?Might have to pull injectors put oil on top of pistons.
