My 450A drive clutchs will slip when I am pushing a heavy load or when I get dug in deep and try to turn. They make a squealing whine noise and the tracks stop. They did this a few times 2 summers ago and last summer they did it once or twice almost everytime I had her out progressing to the point of slipping when turning. She turns fine on loose or wet ground and the cluthes have never been stuck on my watch. She was a state owned dozer before I had her and spent her life pushing broken concrete and asphalt on the highway. The tracks were worn almost smooth so I welded on 1.25 extensions on the track. Probably not the smartest because now she doesn't slip the track but will dig till the motor is powering down. What all do I need to repair or adjust to fix the slipping? Should I scrap my pad extensions? Any help is greatly appreciated.

After re-reading my last response...That was a straight 450 or B model right?? They had dry clutches...450-C had wet clutches , totally different...If your's is a C model let me know , I'll have to give you different instructions....

You mentioned it was a state owned dozer...Not a loader , Right ??...Dozers are supposed to have some grouser bars on the track shoes..They keep the track shoe from bending from weight and strain and provide traction...As long as they're not too long..They are a BIG NO NO on loaders...As far as your slipping problem , Pull the top covers off [ 5 bolts each cover ].Shine a flashlight down into the clutch housing and operate the steering lever to see if there is any free-play.There should be about an inch of free play at the levers..[ Worn out sloppy pins and clevis's don't count ]. You should be able to see the clutch throw-out bearing move inward and outward..The free-play is the amount of movement of the throw-out bearing before it contacts the clutch fingers..You will be able to feel the tension difference between free-play and disengaging the clutch..If there is free-play and it still slips , The clutch needs to be rebuilt because of junk clutch plates or the pressure plate is weak.....If there is no free-play , you can adjust it so there is some with the long bolt on top of the linkage [3/8 bolt]..To get free-play loosen the bolt and nut , If there's too much free-play tighten it up slightly...The other bolt you will see in there is the fine tune adjustment of the brake band to clutch disengagement so it applies the brake band at the right time so it operates smoothly...The major adjustment for the brake band is on the outside of the machine , under the hydraulic tank and battery box ..Small 3 bolt cast cover..That adjustment takes a 13/16" wrench thru the opening you just removed...

I will check on that as soon as it warms up a little more. It is a straight 450 with dry clutches.
