I need to replace the starter on this crawler. Only way we see to do it is remove frame. Does anyone have a shop manaul handy that shows any other way besides cutting out a section of the frame?

You've got me stumped -as to what your problem is. I've got two 1010 crawlers - a 1960 and a 1961. I was also a Deere mechancic since the mid 1960s. I've never had a problem either removing or installing the starter on the 1010s - regardless if it's a Prestolite or Delco. Bolts not very easy to get to - but it just takes a little extra effort.

How do you get to the bottom bolt? The frame rail lays right up again the starter. We have looked at 3 around this area that people have cut a square out of the frame to get to the bolts. We don"t want to do this.

Just about all Deere crawlers need a starter-wrench to get to the bottom bolt - since the side-frame is in the way. Deere, OTC, Snap-On, et. al. sell the wrenches. third party image
