310B will not go forward!!

My 310B backhoe will not run in forward. Reverse works fine. The Hydrolics all work fine. This happened about two hours after a Hyd filter change. I can rev. up the RPMs and it will roll a little.

Try this real quick....With the engine off , listen for a clicking noise in the reverser when you shift the reverser lever from forward to reverse..There should be a distinctive click in each gear..If you don't hear this in forward , adjust the linkage so it goes all the way into forward..It might not be going into gear all the way causing a low pressure situation. The control valve test port is on the reverser control valve ..This valve is on the right side of the reverser case [ sitting on seat facing forward]..There is a shaft that goes from the clutch pedal , across the front of the reverser case , to the control valve..If you look at the bottom of the control valve there should be a hex plug [ either 1/2" or 9/16" in size]..It's located on the rear cover of the control valve, facing straight down..

well, I took the reversor apart, nothing looks unusual in there, as far as I can tell that is. Is there anything I need to look for or test before I put this thing back on?

Roy, The Reverser does click. I really think that this filter gasket is stuck somewhere and causing my problem. I found the test hole for the gauge, I am going to order a gauge so I can test the pressure at that piont. Looks like the threads at 3/8 npt.

Meanwhile, Would you think it would be a good idea to take the reversor apart to look for the missing peice of gasket? Or is it a complecated deal? any place you would suggest me looking for this gasket?

I found part of the filter gasket. But there is a small piece missing. I suspect ths to be my problem. The gasket came of of the Hyd filter that faces down(smaller one) where is the next place the fuild goes after that filter that I might find this peice..... Roy I am not sure where the relief valve is. I looked in y parts book and it showed one for he filter layin side was. Got any hits please let me know

It helps to jack the machine up with one stabilizer..Sitting in the seat with backhoe controls in front of you,Push the left stabilizer lever to raise the machine with loader off the ground about 2 feet..This will keep more trans oil to the lower side away from your escapades getting the relief valve out..Put the other stabilizer down to stabilize the machine..Now block the frame so the machine doesn't fall if a hose fails..Pull off the trans filter can [ vertically mounted]..Inside there you will see a small portion of chrome valve..Straight out from the relief valve spool is a plug on the outside of the trans case..Carefully pry out the relief valve from below and pull it out from the plug hole..Look at the relief valve to see if the valve inside is fully seated..Just a tiny piece of debris can keep the internal valve off it's seat..Now put her back together....

Thanks Roy.... I just did that... It was a little hard to get out, but I finally got it out.. It looked clean. the little valve inside looked good opened easy and nothing blocking it. I replaced it....

I looked for the place to put a gauge but did not see a place. I don't have one, but if I find the place to put it I will go buy a gauge. Would you mind attemping to describe the location of the gauge connection.

I am not familure with the names of the loader parts (so I refer to my parts book, sometime its not help full)

If you have any other ideas I am all ears!!!

Put a gauge into the reverser control valve back cover bottom facing plug..Should read 135 to 155 lbs. in both directions..If it doesn't , you've got a problem..Check it with gear transmission in neutral / rear wheels off the ground..Do the hydraulics seem weak / lethargic??..There might be a chip of crud in the filter relief valve , holding it open ever so little , just enough to bypass a little oil causing weak hydraulics...

One thing I dont understand, is why does it go backwards good and will only inch up in forward.!! This is a big head ack!!

I pulled the little valve out of the transmission filter. but did not find any thing.... still no forward motion.

Sounds like my backhoe!! when I changed the filter there was a piece of the filter gasket missing. This might be what is in the relief valve. Next Question, Where is the relief valve?
