The right side track on my 420C seems to get out of "time" frequently..it makes a rough chunking sound and it shows it is rubbing on the sprocket..have to turn one way sharply and then the other and often then have to back up to get it to straighten up...would greatly appreciate any ideas on how to remedy this. Thank you! Scott

Mine would do this when the tracks needed tightening. The edge of the roll nearest the sprocket would be bumping over the track bushings because the track had shifted sideways. Or it could be because the flange on the edge of the roll was broken/worn off. Backing up will usually get it back on and backing over a small rock or 4" log will help. If you keep on moving forward you'll have the track off eventually. I ran mine for 40 years. I can tell you how to get the track back on easily too if you need to know. HTH

I found a manual and it should be here early next week. This sounds very much like my problem although the track has not come off. That is what I am afraid of. It is a great machine and I will take your suggestions and see. This would be very logical as to "why" the darn thing does this.
Thank you very much and take care. Scott

Check all the stuff Roy said, and I would also split the track and see how much slop there is in the final drive, might be bad bearings. If you don't have a service manual, get one, that will help. Lavoy

Could it be the pins and bushings are worn out??Are there holes worn into the track bushings??How about alignment of rollers and sprockets and tracks..There could be some broken or missing bolts that keep all that stuff lined up..Is the final drive [ where the sprocket bolts on ] loose and causing a miss alignment..Have someone watch the undercarriage as you operate the machine in low gear to find the problem.Carefully..
