Case 450 crawler question.....

I brought a '78 450 'back from the dead' last year, and am very happy with it. Based on advice from this forum's archives I did NOT put any time or money into the brakes (frozen) and, as predicted, am getting by nicely without them. My question: If I were to disconnect the slave cyls and tee the line from ONE m/cyl to feed both drive 'disengage' valves ONLY would I then be able to gradually 'feather' the engagement/disengagement of the drives during delicate moves, such as during trailer loading? The track speed levers, as well as the reverser, provide an 'all in' or 'all out' reaction which can be kind of spooky while loading. I'm thinking I could, in effect, use one of the brake pedals as one would a clutch pedal on a manual trans vehicle. Does this sound feasible to you Case guys? It would be quite easy to do. Thanks to all.

Goober, I don't have an answer for your brake question. However, for what it's worth, when I am in a precarious spot weather loading onto a trailer or forking or a load of lumber off of the truck, I pull the kill knob (diesel) to where the engine idle is very slow. The machine dosent jerk quite so much....sl

I've never run a 450, but I have spent a lot of time on an 850C. Does the 450 have a foot throttle? If so, the way I always did it was let off the throttle and use the 1 brake on that tractor that sometimes worked. After a while, I just got used to doing without it at all. I learned to use the slope of the ground to my advantage, and loading and unloading I didn't even pay much attention to. Just my opinion, hope this helps some.
