Sick Hoe?

I have a 480D Case Backhoe. The machine has strong hydraulics, but when I am using the backhoe for digging, the front bucket gradually curls out and up. I am constantly having to face the bucket down and lift the front of the machine. The loader will lift the front of the machine to full height with the engine idling, and will hold it there several hours with engine off. Is this leaking down a common problem and if not what should I check? The outriggers only loose a little lift.

The bucket should hold its position, the front staying up with the engine off is just holding the dead weight of the machine, when you start digging with the backhoe there is extra pressure on the front and any weakness in the lift cylinders will show, check to make sure that the loader levers feel right and return to the hold position, when cylinders don't hold the oil is escaping somewhere, internal leaks are hard to find but it is usually the cylinder seals but can be the port or spool valve as well.

The first thing I would suspect is the seals in the tilt cylinders, one could be leaking internally and cause your problem, the seals are wearing parts and need replacing from time to time, the seat on the port valve could be letting the oil escape as could the control valve spool if badly worn or scoared.eliminate the cylinders first.

AJK--my tilt cylinders should not have any stress on them, as the bucket is always face down. I seem to have more of a problem with the lift cylinders lifting the loader bucket off the ground. I have rebuilt all the cylinders except the loader. This will be my next project. THANKS
