863 bobcat gauges

I recently purchased a 1999 863 bocat for $9500. I knew when I bought it that the screen for the gauges was blank. I have not bought a manual yet. Maybe not so smart to buy with out knowing the hours but it seems just fine other wise and other ones that size were $12-$20,000 for the same machine so I feel I could spend some money on it and still come out ok.But it would be nice to know how much fuel is in it.

That should be an F-series machine which in my opinion were great. The 863 is a good size machine and still retains the original, proven frame and boom arm designs. It would be my choice were I looking for a Bobcat.

It sounds like you may have the B.O.S.S. option which is a black box in the top right hand corner of the cab that displays all the vital info. They were never really bright where you could see them well even when they worked. You have the box (display) and a controller either or both of which could be bad the service manual will go into detail about how the check them.

The B.O.S.S. option was aimed at the rental industry when it came out, if you had the necessary equip. you could plug into the machine and see if it had ever and hour reading when it recorded high engine temp, low oil psi, hyd. charge pressure and etc. So the rental company could go back to the customer and inquire why the machine was not shut off when one of these conditions occured.

I'm full of useless info on Bobcats but the service manual will help more than I can.
