I'm not sure what happened to my first message that it didn't get posted, but I will try again. I am looking for info from anyone who might know why my Case 450B dozer doesn't have neutral on the right track. It goes into hi range at the neutral position. When I put it in the hi range position the right track locks up. The left track works alright. I can still work the dozer around this problem , but it makes it hard to steer. Thanks to anyone who can help me. Harold

Case 450 is a nice machine. I man I know has a Deere 450 and has had nothing but trouble with it. Cat is too pricey. Look through the archives on this forum. Lots of good info and help.

It's possible that one of the seal rings on the end of the shaft are broken. I believe the caps are on the front, but I'm not positive. Someone else will probably have more info, but it's hard to say for sure. Do you have a means of taking some pressure readings from the control valve? This would tell you for sure. Hope this helps.

I don"t have a way to check the pressure, but I will try to get somthing to check it. What kind of pressure would it be so I know how high of a pressure gauge to get. The shaft you spoke of, is it the shaft in the control valve.

Try this. Remove the floor plates. On the right side behind the brake is a four bolt plate with two hoses connected to it. Disconnect the hoses. Either at the control vale oor the plate. WITH ALL CONTROLS IN NEUTRAL, crank machine. There should be no pressure coming from the hoses. Mabey some seaping by the control valve, but not enough to squirt oil everywhere. If there is pressure here the problem is in the control valve. For this step it would be best if the machine were off the ground. Move the for/rev lever into gear. The right track should not be under power. How is low range affected? Does it lock up? Post back with the results.

I tried taking the two linees off the control valve and there wasn't pressure in either line. The right track is under power in low range and neutral. It locks up when I put it in high range. I thought it was in high range when it was in neutral but I am not so sure. It might be stuck in low range and when I put the lever in high range it goes into high and low range which in turn locks the track up. Harold

Harold If you removed the lines and there was no pressure when started I think your problem may be internal. Try one more test. With both high/low range levers in neutral, move your forward/reverse lever into gear. Does the right track pull the machine around? If it does, and you have no pressue like you say, I think your problem has to be in the clutch pack inside the transmission. If this is the problem it's no simple fix. The machine will have to go to your dealer or an experienced machanic. Sorry.
