WHAT? thats all i have to say about straight stacking my 8K. I went to town and got some pipe to follow the same path of the muffler and made alittle bracket for the mount and welded a little pipe in for the aspirator. got that altogether and took her out back and started stripping in our little gravel pit out back. i thought the old H"s had a mean bark to them, this thing made my ears ring after a few hours through my ear muffs..... . I"m lovin it!

You can check the aspirator tube for proper operation by taking off precleaner and running engine at high idle. The tube should draw like a vacume cleaner. If it doesn't you need to modify the end inside of the stack. Tube connection should enter stack and bend up 90 deg. The top end should be right even with the three tear drop pieces in the stack that form the venturi. That is what makes it draw.

If you don't have a Venturi in the stack you had better take the aspirator pipe off or you will have a meltdown in your Cyclone tube precleaner.

Bob, what is the purpose of the aspirator anyways? I often wondered what it does.

The Aspirator Tube it to take the large particles of dirt(sand) out of the intake air and blow them up the stack with the exh. They are used with Cyclone Tube Precleaners that never need to be emptied as the plastic bowl type do. If you look at a bowl type when the engine is running you can see the dirt circling around in it. That 's because the air comes in through the angled fins at the bottom and swirles around, dirt flys to outside and the bowl catches it. The Cyclone Tube one works similar, air goes down the tubes that have a spiral piece in the center and spins the dirt to the outside. The tubes are two piece, large at top and smaller one at botton going up into it. The most of the dirt spins around the outside wall and misses the smaller bottom tube. The dirt lands in the bottom of the percleaner and is vacumed out and blown up the stack. Now here is where problems begin. To work right the end of the aspirator needs to be right as I said above in other post and the screen at top needs to be clear. The worst place is a garbage dump where pieces of paper and plastic bags are flying around. They get sucked around the screen and choke the intake, the engine draws hot exh back through the aspirator tube and melts the palstic tubes. If your D8K is new enough it may have what looks like a small muffler in the tube, that is a check valve (flap like a rain trap inside) to prevent this. If you look inside your precleaner you may see melted tubes.

Don't know how much of old muffler and pipe you did or can salvage. Think if you got the old aspirator pipe out of muffler complete and the old stack with teardrops in it you could make it work. End of small pipe must be in the most restricted part of stack to draw dirt out.

I don't know how you stand it. I remember one day, I forgot my hearing protection while running an 8K pushing 627 scrapers and I tried stuffing anything that could be had in my ears, " hey pard, have you got 2 cigarettes " I don't smoke, but those filters provided some relief. By the time I got home, felt like shell shock. Not only is that D-353 engine quite loud, also the transmission whine, certain frequencies penetrate right through, not sure how people deal with noise like this, without good hearing protection, those are big loud machines with an exhaust system, cannot even imagine a straight pipe on it, might sound cool, but 40 hrs a week of it ..... whaaaaa aat ....? LOL !!!!

If you don't have one , fabricate a 60 to 90 degree elbow for the exhaust and point it straight ahead and that will direct some of the noise away from you. Am making one for the 300 hp 21A to quiet it down. Bob
