I would like to restore a small cat and was looking at either an early D2 or D4. Which one of the two would be a good project and what are the relative weights of the two with blades? All and any advice would be appreciated.

Forgot to answer the second part of your question. I can haul my D2 with dozer blade on a tandem axle skidsteer trailer, you'll need a pretty hefty dual tandem trailer to haul a D4.

From a parts availability standpoint, you will probably be better off going with the D4 ... if you want collector value, then the D2. I have a D2 with pony start that's on my project list ... a matter of putting the rebuilt injectors back in it and probably, by now, unsticking the drive clutches. I found after I bought it and started looking for parts that these are scarce as hen's teeth. If someone out there knows differently, I'd sure like to know where they're hiding.
