Anyone have experiance with the Old 988-A? On mine when you step on either brake pedal the pressure gauge on the dash will drop to just near the red line do not operate. Then it takes a while to come back up to high green.Op Manual says you should be able to step on the brake pedal several times before it hits the red line. I hope it is a simple fix. These Old Girls usually cost Big Bucks to Repair. Thanks,CB48

Have you drained the air reservoir,if the reservoir is half full of gunge it reduces the volume of air by half,if it has auto moisture drainers I would remove them in case they are blocked and not the let the moisture and oil drain,if the reservoir checks out ok the air must be escaping somewhere, that can be a diaphragm, line or the foot valves so you will need to check them and as stated by the others with the engine shutdown.
Good Luck
AJ

Yes sounds like an oil leak to me. Put the lock bar in the center of machine and run it with someone holding the peddal down. Then follow all the brake lines and see where oil is pouring out. The Expander tubes are a good place to start but due to age of machine a lot of steel lines could be rusted through too.

Gotta agree with Fred, it sounds like you've got a leak either in one of the brake diaphrams. I have seen the treadle valve itself be the culprit in low brake air pressure but usually that causes the pressure to drop even before the peddle is pushed. Build up some air and shut the engine down, or better yet plumb an aux air line in from your shop compressorso the pressure will stay up without running the engine. With pressure in the system press the peddle, or have someone else do it, while standing by each corner of the machine. Without the engine running it should be really easy to hear and find the leak.

It sounds like your nitrogen accumulator needs a recharge.
