There is a core plug behind the flywheel on those tractors. You have a fair amount of work to get to it. The early engines have a threaded plug, later ones have a standard press in plug. I am finishing the same job on mine. Mine is an early model and the threaded plug was $44.00 from NH. The replacement was steel alloy, not cast. Use a brass plug if it is the later engine.

Early engines were built 1/01/1965 - 2/28/1969. Gas or diesel are 201 CI. I could not find the hp, but I believe it to be +/- 50 hp. If you go to the New Holland web site and drill down to the parts pages you can enter the model number for most any of the Ford products and see the parts breakdown and part #'s.

Mine is an Oct. '69 BH/Loader tractor & as I recall is 59HP.
I've replaced that freeze plug (drive-in plug)few times thru the years. Last time I used brass plug & it's lasted over 10 yr....before that I used reg plugs & they lasted 1-3 yr. And I've always used distilled water in everything, bypass water filter on all my equipment that I could mount one on, kept ck on my SCA's etc, & still had plug troubles till I went to brass!!
As a tip....I got caught once & had to put mine in a shop. They wanted to undo & sit BH off, strip loader & all kinds of stuff off....would have turned into all kind of shop hours.
I showed 'em a shorter way.
Everytime I've broken my 4500 apart I unbolt the front loader frame from tractor front (with loader raised & blocked), sit & block BH from leaking off & use BH for counter balance, block up back tractor 1/2 at bell housing, floor jack under engine & roll front 1/2 forward. Concrete floor helps. Heavy plywood helps if you're out in the woods.
First time I did it I think it took 2-3 weeks....
Now I probably could do in in 2-3 hrs on a good day....
Hope this helps.
James
