Howdy.
Talked to a fellow about a TD-15 B he has and he told me the oil pressure at idle is 15 PSI. He says this is normal for this engine as it"s a hi oil flow design with large oil ports....does this sound OK to you guys???
Also, what do you think is a fair price for something like this that is in "real good shape" and the undercarriage is OK and he has all the manuals and parts books.

Was out on the IH farm tractor working ground and looked at the oil pressure and thought of this post. Mine has a 466B model engine and the oil pressure was 15lbs at idle and hot at 190 degrees, Rods and mains have about 500 hours on them and 30wt rotella in the crankcase so I would say his 15lbs at idle is normal for a good engine. When at full load, it runs at 47lbs. If I use 40wt oil in the heat of the summer, I will run about 50 lbs. 15B is a good dozer. get a dozer man to look it over. Bob Ohio

Went and looked at the dozer today....man, it's a big baby! It's in pretty good shape...had oil leaking out of one of the blade cylinders. I saw it work with the root rake on the blade. It does a job on clearing scrub and small trees,etc... The big pins that the blade arms hook to are worn. the tracks look great. Undercarriage looks real good....had a guy there retired from working on cranes and dozers...friend of the seller and really seemed to know the machine. He has worked on it. I think this thing is too big for what I need. Haven't even checked on getting it hauled the 70 miles to here. Think the blade is 121" wide and would be a wide load. By the way, the serial # is: TD15BP23042. Any idea what year it is?

From the book I have serial # says its a 1969 model

You can never have a dozer that is to big unless all you have are trees 6in in diameter. I started with a 6 ton HD5 and now have 3 30ton HD21s. I go after 20 and 30 inch trees and a lot of dirt to move. Go up to RED POWER site, Construction Forum. It is strictly an IH site and some 15 owners up there. They can give you stats on the year. There is a fellow name Rocko who is an IH expert on the 15s that works in Canada for a big Dresser operation that knows the 15 in and out. You will probably have to call him. There a many posts in the archives about the 15s. I would like to find one with a blown engine for I have spare 414, 436, and 466 engines I could put in one. If the undercarriage is good that means a lot. Know all about hauling costs, paid $10 per mile to have mine hauled in here. Bob

Yep, I'm a ham. Been on the air a number of years now. Get on each AM with some friends.
Just shoot the bull.
I found out something on these big machines.(maybe all dozers, I dunno)
One needs a loader or some kinda lift device to handle the heavy parts. I don't have that. If I needed to remove a blade ram to service it...it weighs a ton, looks like. These guys with this big machine have a loader and boom hoist of some sort on their tractor that they use to access and handle stuff on this dozer. The ROPS is bolt on and I wouldn't even have a way to get that off, if needed....one can't just shove it under a tree, like a car, and start yanking stuff out..ha. Hell, the tree would tip over !!!!
My brother was with me looking at the machine.
He said to quit looking at that monster...ha ha...said don't get it...forget it...too big!!! He told me not to ask him to work on it 'cuz he's got a bad back and said they ain't nothin light on that thing ! He's a good worker too! I have 30 acres here and no big trees to move...underbrush and thickets mostly. The chainsaw is getting to my back and working me too hard...that's why I want a dozer.
Looks like a smaller one for me if and when I can find one. Know where there's a nice TD-7E, but the guy wants $18000 for it. Won't take a penny less. Really don't need one that bad. But want one....
How do you handle the heavy lifting on your machines? Use a loader or something? Work by yourself?
Also, we're on the air each AM but Sunday on 7.290 Mhz at 8, our time. It't the Panama Canal Zone Net. Some of the guys worked in the zone. I know some of them. I'm on most mornings, if I can make myself stay inside !!! ha ha.
If you can, holler at us. We generally just pass it around for 1/2 hr or so and shoot the bull.
Feel free to pass on any dozer advice to me that comes to mind. I ain't got any experience and have never run one.

Ham radio, ticket in 1952, haven't been on the air for 2 years TS950SDX, Henry Amp,still have every piece of DRake, Collins, and Kenwood equipment I ever bought, plus a Big AM station. 40 meter antenna is up, one end of 80 is down, take 5 minutes to fix it. Dozers, price of the TD7 is inline, everyone wants small dozers they can truck around. Big dozers are cheaper because no one wants a semi to haul one. The big ones are ideal to park on a farm. We have 700 acres, 400 tillable, I have put everything in CRP programs and have 50 to plant. The dozers are farm toys and I enjoy reshaping the land. Do have a hoe which has great lifting ability if needed. Pete I always figured what would it cost me to hire it done. Two of my dozers have paid for themselves with little repair expense, the third one owes me 70 hours of run time yet. Back to radio, the new hobby has been RC airplanes for the last three years. Left that hobby in 1958, pilots license in 61 and still do some flying. Have a RC strip on the farm and was flying this evening. Teachung gran kids how to fly.
