I have a John Deere 450c Dozer. It has a LOT of hours on it and recently (last few months) I have noticed that the steering on the right is weaker than on the left ( lever steer). This thing really wears you out after a few hours Any suggestions on the adjustment? It has wet clutches and I"ve heard that I need to check the pressure? How do I adjust?
I also need to know the year SN 199975T.
and while I have your attention mabey a shove in the direction of a FREE online downloadable maintenance manual on the old iron as money is always an object in this house!

OK , What wears you out??? Too much lever pressure needed to steer it ? When you pull on a lever does the track start back up again after you let it go or does it slip ??..The way these work is , oil pressure engages the steering clutch piston tightening the plates up ..This makes it move or not move. When you pull the levers you are dumping oil pressure back to sump..Does the engine pull down excessivly when you turn the machine .If so, the brakes are too tight.. If you have the levers in your chest when turning , the brake bands need tightening..Not exactly sure where you're going, the way the question was worded...Hope this helped some anyhow....

Sorry about the wording. Here is more info indepeth. with tractor NOT running= When the left stick is pulled there seems to be more steady pressure all the way to the brake. When the right lever is pulled there seems to be "slack" until the pressure and then the brake. the pressure applied to do the work is actually less hydraulic resistance and more rear brake to turn the machine to the right. Does this explanation help?
It seems to give me a pretty good workout pulling the stick hard to get the machine to turn. I just thought it always turned better. Sorry for any confusion. Any ideas on the year from the sn?
Any help with fair priced manual?
Thank you in advance, Chris

Try www.tradebit.com for your manual. I got one for my 450 case for $20. It's a file, not a hard copy. But you could easily print it out or just print the pages you need like I do.
