I need to pull a small dozer 6500lbs a few times a year about 15-25 miles. I have a Chevy
1/2 ton w 350 v8 & 5 speed trans, if its possible
to pull this much then i going to start looking for a tandem trailer with good brakes. The roads
are in good shape and not much of a grade.

HI guys, I pull a JD 350B with a tri-axle, total weight probably 15000lbs or so. I haul with a K2500. I think the key for pulling in tow gears, I've got the low deared rear end and an auto. With tall highway gears I'd hate to try to get her going up a hill. The key for stoping is good trailer and truck brakes, I've got brakes on two of my three axles. And as noted earlier, be sure you got the tongue loaded, don't want the tail wagging the dog.
Not sure, but some 5 speeds I've driven were geared to tall in first to haul any significant load.
Good luck and safe hauling.
Joel

I agree with most of the other fellas, 6500 lbs won't be much of a problem. Just take your time and get it loaded evenly, with a little extra tongue weight. I routinely pull a skid loader with my 1/2 ton, which weighs about 7000 lbs plus the trailer. I've pulled 4 ton of rock on the same trailer, but that was probably pushing it.

I question your weight estimate though, what dozer are you pulling? 6500 lbs isn't very heavy, even for the smallest dozer. I guess some of the older dozers are lighter, but just wanted to be sure you weren't miscalculating your overall weight. I've got a Case 350, which is pretty small, and it weighs just over 10,000 lbs.

Its a Chinese dozer, i had a JD1010,int340 & OC3 oliver previously they all seem to be about the same weight. Typical small 40hp farm dozer, specs list it at
6600lbs.

It will work, but make sure you have good brakes. Also remember the trailer can add around 2000 or more pounds to your load. Pulling that much will drain your gas tank real fast too. Paying to have it hauled a few times a year definitely beats trailer tags registration brakes tires and all other maintanence, not to mention state troopers (i know they mean well). Overall It can be done, but the most important thing to remember is what will the truck do when someone pulls in front of you?

I don't see any problem with that as long as the hitch is good and the brakes work. I've pulled quite a bit more with a similar truck. I would have some extra weight in the bed for stability.

Pulling the crawler/trailer should be no problem. Just watch your temp gauge (you do have one, don't you?). I quite regularly pull a 31' travel trailer, usually in the mountains, with my '94 C2500, 350 eng. The combined weight of the trailer and the truck is a little over 14,000 lbs. Have yet to encounter a problem.

Dont believe I'd recommend it. You could hire it moved a few times a year for a long time for what a good tandem trailer would cost.
