I have a Case 480C backhoe with a powershuttle transmission. The forward drive is very weak in all but first gear, it can't make it up a small grade. Is the problem in the torque convertor, powershuttle or both ? Any suggestions to troubleshoot the problem? Thanks,
CR

I can't tell you what to check without looking at a manual, which I don't have access to anymore, but it sounds like the shuttle. I worked for Case for 7 years and many times when a machine came in that didn't have power in forward, but was fine in reverse it was the shuttle. The forward disc get worn from loading and driving while reverse seldom has any "load" on it. If you do determine it is the shuttle the remanufactured shuttle is your best bet. You get a practically new shuttle vs. rebuilding your old one and you still got alot of your old parts.

Yes it can be removed without pulling the engine, but you will need a jack or some type of lifting device cause it is HEAVY. At least to heavy to man handle. Take your front bucket and stabilizers and lift your machine as high as it will go. Block up under the rear axle and front axle so the machine won't fall on you. This gives you much needed working room. If you don't have any blocks to put under the machine it is possible to do this with it on the ground. IF you don't have any blocks PLEASE don't try this method. Also, instead of a jack it might be possible to run a come-a-long down from the top to let it down with. It's been a while I forget.

Reverse is OK. I checked the fluid and pickup filter they are OK.
Thanks,
