today i started the 440 for the first time this year, but when i pushed the clutch in to put it in gear the gears just kept turning and i couldn't get it in gear. i turned the engine off put it in gear and then restarted it while holding the clutch in and it was ok. i ran it back and forth and was able to shift ok, but if i left the clutch out then pushed it back in i couldn't get it in gear. what would be the repair for this problem and what caused it? Thanks in advance for help

Sounds like you have a sticky clutch but not stuck or you would not have been able to start it in gear without it moving. Just go ahead run it for a few days to polish up the pressure plate and flywheel surfaces.

The clutch disc is stuck to the flywheel, it is caused by moisture and rust, although I had one that was caused by mice living in the bell housing. You might get it to break loose by pushing some dirt or pulling a heavy load while holding the clutch in. Otherwise, you will need to split it and take the clutch out.
