Over the weekend I bought a Lamson Mobilift Corp. model EW type G standup gasoline powered forklift from my boss. It's been in storage at work for 6 years and he was going to scrap it just to save some space and I decided on a whim to just buy it from him...just to keep it from being junked.
it runs but is in serious need of a good tuneup. I've tride about 50 different types of searches online trying to get some info on it and I can't seem to find anything at all.
I was planning on either selling or trading it after I get it tuned up and am sure it's in good running condition but have absolutely no idea of where to get any info on it or what it's even worth.
here's the info I do have (taken from the plate(s) on the unit itself)
Lamson Mobilift Corporation, Portland Oregon
Model: EW Type:G Serial #:3726
3 cylinder gasoline engine (Continental???)
3 wheel hard surface use only (I was told)
Capacity:
1590 lbs @ 30in load center
1860 lbs @ 24in load center
2500 lbs @ 15in load center

3971.5 hours on meter
less than 30 minutes on rewound and rebuilt generator.
About a year and a half ago my boss decided to start using it. he did some work on it including having the generator rebuilt and then it just sat unused again.

anyway I'd appreciate any help I could get from anyone about this lift.
thanks!

Something"s odd here...these things do exist "cuz murphy auctions listed one (a 5000lb 6cyl gas) on a 2000 auction list...but the Oregon Cptn Comm doesn"t show any Lamson Corporation/Lamson Mobilift Corporation in their active and inactive files, which supposedly include Corporations, ptnrshps, ABN"s, registered and reserved names... a couple active Lansoms show up, but nothing like a forklift comany. If you can get an approx date of construction, I"ll run some business directories next time I"m at the library. There"s four Lamsons in the phone book, but so far no connection to a forklift outfit (with cell phones there"s fewer and fewer people in the book)

From what my boss was told the company was bought out or closed back in the 50's or 60's. A friend guessed the forklift was possibly a pre-WWII model.

thanks for the help it's GREATLY appreciated!

Rich, I owe you an apology for being lax: I didn"t think to query the Cptn Comm here as to how complete their online inactive records are, and it turns out the assumed business names only go back 5 years or so, and corporations only 10 years or so, which, of course, lets them charge for older searches. I"ll be at the library tomorrow, and I"ll see what I can find.

no worries and certainly not lax at all. I appreciate the research you've done.

I still can't find aything on the bloody thing that has any kind of date.I did pull a little info off of the carb and governor (I was right there so why not???). I doubt that it will help much with dating the lift but... anyway here it is...
the carb is a TILLOTSON model 8339
the governor is a HOOF governor
no. 35p-2048
range 3100NL
Model S-110A
HOOF PRODUCTS CHICAGO U.S.A.
there was also a list of patent no's that I didn't bother copying (no real reason and they would have been impossible to read without scraping the paint off anyway.

I took a little closer look at the engine and such...but with the airdeflectors and such there wasn't much i could really see if it. It is an aircooled 3 cylinder with no visible markings...now I am fully willing to admit that I know next to nothing about older aircooled engines but one thing did strike me as strange... on the right side of the engine where each cylinder bore is there is a grease zirk dead center between the head and the base of the cylinder (the sides of the cylinder are pretty much flat but you can more or less tell). Anyway like I said before I know next to nothing about engines like this so it's probably not that unusual...and normally not worth remarking on but it just struck me as odd...

thanks again for all the help!
Richard

I have an E-63 (Mobilift, no Lamson) which sounds like it has the same engine. Mine has an ID number on the front right side at the top of the crankcase (F519, I think). I don't know if this is a model number or serial and still can't even figure out the make of the engine. The latest patent on mine was issues in 1941, so I suspect it was likely built during the war.
