I have a 3cx backhoe with Perkins 4.236 engine. Was digging with it and engine died down. Thought it may be running out of fuel So is shut it off with pull cable.I put fuel in and bled the engine . The lift pump is working.Fuel comes out of filter line & injector pump. I cracked the injectors open and cranked it over but no fuel came out of the injector line, not a drop. I also didn't see any air come out when i bled filter and pump.

When i opened the injector lines i didn't have the throttle wide open. Does that matter?

Ok. I removed the top of the lift pump and cleaned the mesh.It was dirty but it wasn't obstructing the flow. There was also some gunk in the body of the lift pump. The diesel fuel was gushing out and didn't stop . Like it had an electric fuel pump going. I bled everything again. The diesel fuel shot out like 2 feet (60cm) from the injector pump bleed screw. But still nothing came out of the injectors. Something must be obstructed or broke inside the injector pump. Maybe the cranking done is causing the high pressure in the injector pump body because the fuel has no where to go. What is the next step?

thank you AJ

Start off by cleaning the gauze filter in the lift pump, when you take the top off there should be a good flow of fuel there if not there is a blockage between there and the tank, with the gauze and pump clean put the top back, fit new fuel filter/filters,to bleed the system open the bleed screws on top of the filters and the two on the injector pump, prime the lift pump till clear fuel comes from the back filter and close the bleeder, same with the front one, prime away till clear fuel comes from the bottom bleeder on the pump, close it,prime on till the top one is clear and close it,keep priming till the lever goes limp, slaken the four injector pipes that go into the side of the injectors 5/8 wrench size, not the top,on full throttle and with the stop control in run position crank the engine over till fuel starts to spurt from the pipe unions, tighten the pipes and the engine should start.
