I'm taking the CAV pump off my perkins motor (its a massey loader) and i've disconnected all the injector lines and undid the three bolts that hold it on. The pump seperated about an eight of a inch from the housing but wont' come off. I tried jiggling it and slightly prying it (i dont want to break anything), is there something i'm missing here? Is there another bolt or nut I have loosen somewhere else or is there a trick or what?

The two small bolts hold a plate that acts like a lockplate for the centre nut,the plate also acts as a removal tool to push the gear off the pump shaft taper, you slacken the two small bolts a couple of turns each, you then undo the centre nut,it will go tight as you unscrew it as it comes out against the plate, keep undoing it and the taper will break, then take the plate off by undoing the two small bolts, take the centre nut off and the pump will come off,do not let the gear come out of mesh as it is timed to the other gear, the pump drive shaft has a key that will need to be lined up when refitting the pump so mark the pump body in relation to the key,a tiny bit of superglue ensures the key stays in place while installing the pump.

Found three bolts in the housing the pump is attac in reply to Case450, 05-14-2007 10:12:10
I took a cover off the housing on the opposite side of the pump. There is a big gear in there and that i assume turns the pump. I felt a big maybe 9/16" bolt head dead centre of where the pump gear shaft would be, and to the sides of that are two smaller bolts. I'm thinking that centre bolt is what holds that big gear on so it must be one of the smaller bolts that will release the pump. Its hard to say which one as the fan, the rad shroud and the rad hose are all in the way. It's hard to see in the hole at all really but I think I can do it by feel. My new question, which of the bolts do i release?
