I have a customer whose Case 580 Super E appears to be having power shuttle problems. The entire machine was working strong when it was shut off but when he came back 20 minutes later he started it up, put it in gear and engaged the shuttle and it would'nt go forward or backward. Nothing happens when the shuttle shifter is moved forward and backwards, there is no lurching, no bogging of the engine or anything that would suggest that the machine is trying to move. I watched the drive shaft from the shuttle to the transmission while he shifted it back and forth and it never spun. We were told that it could be the clutch disengage system on the loader control but I thought that when those went bad the tractor just didn't stop when you pushed the button. Anybody have any ideas what to look for or where to start? Thanks.

If the button on the lever sticks in the clutch will be disconnected and the shuttle will not drive, secure the machine and stop the engine,go underneath the machine in front of the left back wheel and look up at the shuttle to where the lever rod connects to the F/R valve, check to see the lever is connected and moving the valve, outside of the lever you will see the solenoid for the clutch disconnect, there is a pig tail cable on it attaching it to the wiring loom, disconnect the plug and see if you have drive,if you have one of the disconnect buttons is more than likely stuck down powering the solenoid aa the time.

The rod that goes down beside your steering colume that shifts your shuttle is two pieces. Check where it connects and make sure the handle is turning the lower linkage rod. Crawl under the machine and have someone work the handle. If the coffee can looking thing with the rod connected to it is moving, your linkage is O.K. If your in question about the declutch being stuck take the coffee can looking thing off and try it. You shouldn't loose any oil doing this. It just screws off. The coffee can thing is the declutch solenoid by the way. If your linkage is shifting at the shuttle and it won't move, it sounds like you don't have pressure for some reason. Hopes this helps.

Thanks guys for all your help, you've gotten me off to a good start. I have a couple more questions though about the system.

The shuttle linkage is good and working. I disconnected the pigtail to the solenoid and still nothing happened. I pulled the solenoid off and that didn't help but I took note of the rod that the solenoid actuates on the shuttle. After proping the machine up with the backhoe stabilizers, I used a prybar to push the rod in and immediately the wheels started to spin. So I guess my questions are: is that the normal operation of the clutch disconnect? And is there a safe way to test the solenoid, like hooking one terminal to postive and one to negative and listening for the clicking of the magnet? I don't want to replace the solenoid if the problem could still be in the wiring or buttons.

thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.
