I"m having to push very hard on the right brake to get the crawler to turn. Tried the wheel adjustment, but it appeard all the way ran out? Looks like a lot of work to get to the brake band? Anyone have any suggestions... brake band worn out?

Let me know if you need assistance on this via e-mail. Just finished a simalar job on my JD555A.
Didn't replace brakes as there was no need, but did replace Hyd. hose and it's right next to the brakes. Same removal of all componets to get there. Not to bad but time consumming.

If what you are saying is that it appears that the adjuster is at its max. then you'll have to disassemble to replace the brake band. If a portion of the brake material fell off of the band, then you'll have metal to metal contact and in one of those machines (550-555 etc) that is a big problem as they tolerate oil contamination by digging deep into your wallet... The metal contaminated oil will also get into the transmission so drain and flush it all after repair and change the filter several times.
