Does anybody know how much a Caterpillar #12 roadgrader weighs? I an trying to buy one that has been sitting outside with the exhaust uncovered for many years. Figured a starting price would at least need to be what it would bring for scrap. Thanks for any help-I normally just play with farm equipment and backhoes. I have never owned a roadgrader before.

I'm in Big Rapids, about 2 hours straight north of of Kalamazoo on 131. You would need a semi with a flatbed trailer to haul it. I bought it and paid to have it hauled to my place from the U.P. about five years ago, I keep it around to remind me never to do that again (bought it sight useen). Anyway, e-mail me and I will send you some photos.

I don't know where your located but I have an AutoPatrol 11 in Michigan (came out before the 12) that really needs a new home, and you could have it for much less than scrap.

I am in east-central Illinois, just a little west of Champaign. Where are you located? I worked for a year in Three Rivers, just south of Kalamazoo. I would be interested in the auto-patrol, depending on the feasability of being able to haul it. Thanks for telling me about it.

About 22,000 - 23,000 lbs on the earlier models with D318 engine.

The 12F was around 27,000 lbs, and the 12G was around 29,500, I believe. This should get you in the ballpark--if it's older than these, it probably weighs a bit less.

Thanks for the info-it is an older one with a pony motor. It just looked like a neat toy to have, but it might need a boatload of work. It was operational when parked many years ago.

One thing to be careful of on the old Cat graders--they were known as "finger slappers", because the blade controls are not hydraulic--they're a series of gears and clutches controlled by what look like hydraulic levers but aren't. If you don't get the gears firmly locked, they'll jump back out and the levers will slap your fingers, which has been the source of lots of naughty language over the years!

Thanks for the tip. I was told by an old operator of the machine to always make sure I hit the controls fairly hard with the heel of my hand-now I know why.
