If your machine has a pull stop make sure that you push it back when you stop the engine, then put the throttle on full that way the metering valve in the pump cannot stick in the stop position which they do,if you got an electric shutoff still put the throttle on full,I think also that you should service the fuel system, run the engine till its warmed up and has charged the battries, take the cover from the lift pump and clean it out,if you think the pump is leaking back remove the outlet pipe from the lift pump, with a piece of pliable hose held against the outlet and the other end in your mouth try to blow back,if you can the none return valve is leaking and could be losing prime, put in new fuel filter/s bleed the system, start by opening all the bleed screws, prime till clear fuel comes from the filter/s,close the bleed screw/s and prime on till clear fuel from the bottom bleeder on the pump, then finish with the top one,you may have to loosen the injector pipes a couple of turns to get the air out of the pipes as the CAV can be a SOB to bleed once air gets in so that is why I advise warming the engine up first, you need to make sure that all the glow plugs are working, fitting an eletric pump is a no with me,the factory setup is all that is required, the tank is higher than the pump so keep it filled up to expel moisture, make sure that the tank vent is free and not causing a vacuum drawing the fuel back. Good luck. AJ.
