I have a John Deere 310A backhoe which would not start over the winter. I have drained the lines, replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the injector lines and bled the lines. Can anyone suggest a good location for a service manual? I guess I need to learn how to run a compression test.

Does it start hard or does it not start at all ? When you are cranking it to start , does it emit smoke from the exhaust ? Low compression would smell like raw fuel.

Thanks for the reply. At first it was black smoke, then finally white smoke. I finally got it started but I used more starting fluid than I wanted or probably should have. When it was warmed up, it started good in the past.

I don't really understand what that means... but here's something that may help
***** Cranks over and emits whitish/grey fuel smelling smoke but does not fire --- that is low compression
***** Cranks over but doesnt smoke at all or very small amount and does not fire -- thats a fuel delivery problem -- clogged tank screen, transfer pump thats NFG , clogged filter, injection pump problem etc...
