A friend of mine bought a 1971 580B Case backhoe and the hydroshift trans is not working he had the clutches looked at by a dealer who said they were ok what happens is the fluid seems very white and frothy and no movement much in the machine. He has the big shop manual but is kind of lost on what to test and how to do it. Is there a separate pump and filter for the hydro part of the trans? Any help apprectiated. regards

m El on the Case board address a similar problem about a 580B. He refered to the pickup screen needing to be cleaned. Might check out the Case board on this site.

Will it back up? I did one for a guy that got screwed buy the seller , when it was cold it would go foward ok till it warmed up then it would not move but it would go in rev . just fine . It was a big job getting that thing out from under the cab and when we got it apart we found the foward clutch pack was toast and the toqure converter was junk and that parts were no longer avlabale end up getting a new compleat clutch pack assy of the new stile and had a hard time comming up with the plug that goes in the end of the clutch pack it does not come with it. the total job ended up costing him 6900 bucks. clutch pack asy. was just shy of 4000 the rest was converter and labor. Good Luck.
