Hi - I've had a few opinions from people about this.
1. Cracked Block
2. Leaking oil cooler
3. Blown Head Gasket

It happened suddenly, there was steam blowby coming out the crankcase breather. There is no oil in the radiator.

Thanks for any help.

Ken

g the head gasket route first, while you have the head off get it check for cracks, the injectors are dry, also have th e oilcooler checked, one of my customer's son just taded in a tractor with water in the oil. it was the head gasket!

Do the head gasket first Ken. Take a good look at old gasket. Run it up and get warm and change oil and filter a couple of times to clean out anti freeze.
Later Bob

I am not sure if your engine has pre combustion chambers like my D7 17A does, but a couple of years ago I had one that cracked and it did exactly what your describing.I waited too long to fix it and pulled the top off a piston because of it.

sounds like a blown headgasket if it happened all of a sudden.here what you can do to tell.

fill radiator completely to top.start engine with radiator cap removed.if you can see bubbles coming up out of water,it is blown headgasket.

if theres no bubbles it could be a pitted thruogh cylinder wall.in any event you need to remove head.first thing to inspect is gasket.could also be cracked head, altho that is un common on those engines.good luck

Not sure if it's the same as bigger machines , but if the weep hole in the water pump on bigger machines is plugged up and the water pump leaks the coolant will pressurize and go past the drive seal and end up in the crankcase...These are on gear driven water pumps , not belt driven...
