HI all, quick question, is there a short cut or easy way to check if my brake band is worn thin or out of adjustment, need to pull back hard on right stick to turn, left stick is instant.
Thanks,
Joel

First - you want to be sure the clutch is disengaging before the brake is coming on. In regard to brake adjustement itself - for initial adjustment you adjust the brake-band diameter to take up wear. The adjuster knob on the brake band has flats - so as you turn it - it will want to rest on one of those flats. Turn it clockwise until snug, then back it off until it locks into the first flat it hits (about half a turn). After that, you adjust the linkage so the brake band engages when you pull the steering lever back. When a crawler is adjusted properly - you can point it up a steep hill - with trans in 1st gear forward - have the foot clutch up - climb the hill - and then - there should be a point on the steering clutch levers that the crawler will roll backwards - and then pull a little further and the steering brakes engage.

Thanks jdemaris, I've got the manual, but your explanation of the flats is very usefull. I figured intuitively that the hill idea should work, its good that you validated that belief. I'll takle this weekend. I have a good hill to glide down. I guess that if I run out of tightening on the band then by default it would be worn out. Is replacing the band a big tear down? Looks like it from the manual. Thanks again to you and Roy,
Joel
