Hi all,

I am confused as to how to adjust the steering clutchs on my A/C HD-4 crawler. I have the factory manual but it does a poor job of descibing the procedure. Can someone please do a better job of explaining this to me? Thanks.

Randy

Rudy, my book says "loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting screw out of the housing until the freeplay is 3 1/2 inches, then tighten the locknut." Then do the other side.

Lets back up and decide what is it you need to adjust. Is the unit not clutching.. clutch slipping or is it not braking.. several issues each of which require diffrent attention.

What I want to do is establish proper free play and position of handles. The book says the handles should be 12" from the cowl and have 3-1/2" of free play. It goes on to talk about a set screw stop at the base of the handle which mine does not seem to have. It also has a picture of a "clutch adjusting screw" on the side of the case and then says nothing about how to adjust it. As I said, the book is not much help.

To answer your questions;
Brakes are okay and I know how to adjust those.
One clutch seems to not be disengaging but I suspect the freeplay is set incorrectly and want to get that figured out before I dig into it further.

Thanks for the help.

Randy
