I've to replace a bushing on the tracks of my D7 (17A) but I don't have a manual. Can somebody e-mail me the part of the manual how to replace a pin and bushing?

Thanks in advance
Wilf

As far as I can see that bush is ok,you now have to change that link to a master link,do so by grinding off the two protruding shoulders so they are flush with the sides of the links, get yourself a new master pin,the spacers and dust seals usually come with it if not ask for them, put the dust seals inside the spacers,go to the link below to see the correct way to face them, clean the pin holes of blurrs and of rust with emery cloth, get the track ends together and put the pin in,do not hit the pin directly as that can cause it to swell, use a drift, wear eye protection.

Roy,

thanks for your advice. My problem now is to put it back together. The bushing is protrudes the link by about 3/8" on both sides(Pict0676cpy). The retaining link has a groove (Pict0675cpy). How can I spread the retaining link so it fits over the bushing and snaps back

Takes one standard pin and bushing and one master link pin and bushing(short) to replace a link.

Are you going to replace all the pins and bushings or just one?? If you replace just one bad bushing , you can lay the track out , burn out the center of the pin in the end of the pin ..both sides....Drive the pin out..If the tracks are interlocking [ bushing protrudes out the side of the links 1/4"-3/8"] ..The bushing must be cut with an angle grinder or torch so the bushing is flush with the side of the link..That way you can seperate the link assembly..On non-interlocking tracks , once the pin is driven out the link will come apart..Cut the bushing with a torch and drive out the old bushing..To install the new bushing , heat the link so the bushing can be driven into the link evenly , without spreading the links with the track shoe on..Please wear safety glasses..The track pins and bushings are hardened and will shatter or splinter if not careful.. To make the joint "sealed" on interlocking track links..You will need some belville washers and a set of spacers to bring the joint as close to sealed as possible..Can be bought from an undercarriage parts warehouse or Caterpillar...If you're going to replace all the pins and bushings , take the tracks to an undercarriage repair place or Cat..They have a track press to take all the tracks apart in a timely and safe manor...
