Asking for info: has anyone put A B4 Cummins engine in an older Case 450 track loader? It has a struck Case D188 in it now. New tracks, hoses, complete rebuilt cylinders, low hours on converter, rebuilt starter & generator, but Engine struck, valve in head was sticking at the time. Using a lot of oil. Put rebuilt injectors and fuel pump on about 15 min before engine stopped. Looking for advice. It looks like I could put in a Cummins for no more money than rebuilding the D188 and have more power. Should I stay away from the turbo, is that too much power increase? I ran into a fella who put a Perkins replacement in by making one adapter.

I don"t se why you couldn"t swap a Cummins for the other engine as long as it fit in the hole and the mounting points were all adaptable. As for going with a turboed engine vs a non turbo, think about it this way. The origional engine had X amount of HP and the drivetrain of the machine was designed to handle that amount. If you need a turboed engine to achieve that same HP level then by all means get the turbo. Conversely if the Cummins is gonna have equal to or greater than the HP of the origional engine without it then why spend the extra for the turboed engine and more so why take the chance of throwing alot of extra HP at a drivetrain not designed to handle it. Either way if you need adapters you can try going through Guardian. They carry a wide range of engine adapters and couplings and just might have or be able to make what you need. Good luck.

Thank you for reply, I figured the turbo would be to much. I wanted to throw the question out to verify. It looks like re-sleeving the D188 may be what I do. I would really like to trade for a D207. The 188 & 207 were designed for the machine. Thanks for replies & emails. Rebuild of D188 may be the path I have to follow.
