Hey all hope summer treating everyone well! I need to replace the front crankshaft seal on my 310A. Oil leak. Is it possiable to replace the seal by only removing the timing cover?
Thanks from North Maine.

Nope..The timing cover won't clear the front end support casting..It has to be unbolted from the front of the engine and rolled away from the engine .Then you can remove the front cover..Which means , pump drive , lines and hoses, steering drag link if so equipped or steering cylinder hoses , radiator/cooler , air intake tube and hose , wiring to the hydraulic pump , Then support under the loader attachment arms with large wooden blocks, What did I forget ?? There , that'll keep you busy for an afternoon..

JREX, I don't know what a 310A is, But I have replaced many front crank seal on many different machines.

MY EXPERIENCE is that many seals went into the front side of the timing cover, some went into the "inner" side, and those you have to remove the cover. Some even had thier own seat and boos that was bolted to the timing cover, these are slick! often the bigger problem is access the seal or timing cover. If this has a front blade or loader???? if its a loader, MY EXPERIENCE is to raise the bucket and sucure it with a 3" X 3" angle iron around the ram and lower the loader so that the angle 'blocks' or 'jams' the hyd cyl. be careful. Also, a lot of machines have hyd pumps attached to the front crank pullys. So when replacing the fromt seal, you may want to install a new fan belt/s, and or seal into the water pump. Just a few thoughts...one more thing, find some shade to work in...sl
