I RECENTLY PURCHASED AN OLDER INTERNATIONAL 100E TRACK LOADER. IT IS IN VERY GOOD SHAPE FOR ITS AGE PRE 60"S I THINK. I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN I START IT UP TO USE, THE ONLY GEAR THAT WILL MOVE THE CRAWLER IS 3RD, BOTH FORWARD AND IN REVERSE. 1ST AND 2ND GEAR DO NOT WORK INITIALLY. AFTER I HAVE BEEN OPERATING THE CRAWLER FOR AROUND 15MIN. OR SO 1ST AND SECOND GEAR WILL BEGIN TO WORK, BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE. I HAVE CHECKED THE FLUID LEVELS AND EVERYTHING IS AS IT SHOULD BE. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHY THIS IS OCCURING AND WHAT I SHOULD DO TO ELIMINATE THIS FROM OCCURING.

I also have a International 100E CRAWLER that is experiencing shifter problems. However my problems are almost exactly the opposite of those described by "ghend74"

When I start up my unit it only will move in first gear. After warming up a bit it will then move in second gear and sometimes third gear, this is both forward and reverse. However after running for about (20-30) minutes then it will no longer run in Reverse. It only runs in Forward. Further it then sometimes goes Forward when you put it in Reverse.

I was speculating that the issue might be with the shift control valve. Perhaps rebuilding this with new o'rings (have not torn it apart yet) would help my cause. I do not have hoses leading away from the shift control valve but rather 1/4 inch steel tubes. Does anyone have any insights here as to a suggested course of action?

Sounds like the oring in the clutch pack is getting hard and not sealing after running for awhile it will soften up enough to seal. If that is the problem will have to take trans out and repair clutch packs, put gauges on ad check pressure - will probally be low when won't move but after warms up and moves pressure will be up. also check the suction strainer to se if anything is in it that will tell you if have more problems.

That is probably a later 70's tractor. It was preceded by the "C" mode. The shift tower lever has about 6ea 1/4 inch hoses that direct the pressure oil for shifting. There is a valve body with 3 spools as I remember that direct the oil to the clutch packs. I have had previous problems with hoses seperating inside causing very slow shifting. It causes the hoses to almost close inside. You can trace the hoses down and install a guage at the transmission end, select the location and watch to see how long it takes for the pressure to build up. The hoses are a devil to change and very long. Check the manual for the apply pressure. The three spools have springs on each end to keep them centered. I have had these springs break and cause improper shifting or no shifting. I think the valve has "bolted on" plates that you can check the springs. While there, check the spools for indication of "burs." Take a piece of corcous cloth and polish the spools. Take two asprins and call me tomorrow.
