Have been using a friend's Case 450C crawler ( mid 80"s I think) the past sereral months. With a new battery, starts immediately, even during colder weather. After it has gets to operating temperature, it won"t crank over until it cools down a couple of hours and will then be an easy start. I am considering buying this machine and would like to get this problem solved. Any ideas? I"m not much of a diesel mechanic. Thanks.

Sounds like a common Stanadye injection pump problem. When the head & rotor assembly gets worn inside the pump, it will start fine cold - but not hot. Easy way to test it is . . . next time it's hot and won't start. Pour a bucket of cool water on the injection pump. Then crank it. If it fires right up after cooling the pump - you've got a bad head & rotor.

Thanks for this tip; my guess is it pump problem. What is an estimate to have the injector pump rebuilt?

Won"t crank as in starter won"t spin motor or won"t fire up while cranking?

Starter spins it fine; just will not fire.

I made same mistake recently. It is a diesel.
