Hi,
I have a MF 400 tracked digger with a clutch problem - neither the LH or the RH clutch works so the machine does not turn left or right. I suspect it's a hydraulic pressure problem.
Does anyone know where I can get a service manual for this machine or could you give me a hint on how to fault find this problem please?

Thanks - I'm a farmer with only limited experience in tracked machines.

TIA,

Jim

We have an MF 400 crawler loader. Tough old bear it is. We don't use it anymore because the tracks are bad and we now have a JD555 to replace it. Ok first ck the oil level in the reverser. Its the front dipstick on the floorboard. The back dipstick is the ring and pinion gear oil. Steering is the first to go if the oil is low . We have the dealer service manual so if its not that I'm sure I can help you with it. I have been deep into it before and am very familiar with it. I usual hang out over on the OT board if I don't think to check back here and you need more help.

Murry,
Thanks for the helpful reply.
I have checked the oil levels and the front one on the floor is full of clean torque oil - so I don"t think it"s a lack of oil problem. The reverser works really well - direction changes are no problem.
Is there a seperate pump to power the steering? How would I go about checking the pressures at the clutches?
Or better yet - how would you approach this problem?

Thanks for the help,
Jim

I forgot to ask as this may be a dumb question but did you check the oil with engine running. The engine has to be running with the reverser in neutral to check the proper level.

Murray,
ABSOLUTLY not a dumb question.

Thank you - I didn't know to check it with the engine running. I will do so tomorrow.

Thanks,
Jim
