The bucket hydraulics have gotten noisy - moaning and groaning like it"s low on oil. When raising the loader arms, some pulsing of the hydraulics is noticed, and they seem slower than I remember them being. Most of the noise seems to be coming out of the tank. I"ve replaced the two stacked cartridge filters in the front of the tank, made sure the screen sleve was clean. I drained the tank and took off the side cover, the suction screen at the bottom was clean. I noticed two bolts holding down the pressure line to the filters was loose - tightened them, put everything back together - same problem (of course). Fresh oil too. When you first start it up, you can cycle the loader up and down twice and it is fairly quiet. The third cycle and it starts getting noisy again. I cycled it to try to remove any air that might have been in it. The suction line to the pump appears to be all hard line, so I don"t see how it could be blocked. Is the pump going? I really didn"t see any trash in the tank or the old filters - they were just grey, but no heavy build up , just a film. Thoughts?

It sounds like your hydraulic pump is bad. If I remember right it has replaceable cartridge in it. When they start going out the hydraulics slow down and it also sounds like gravel being pumped.

The first thought is did you check if there was an o'ring in the joint of the pipe you found loose as it is possible that while the line was loose the o'ring has ruptured, eliminate that possibility and see how you go.

The bolts I tightened were on a fitting on top of the control valve, and they had backed out enough the lock washers were uncompressed and you could turn the bolts with your fingers. I didn't take the line off to check for an O ring, but it looked like it had some kind of compressible metal gasket make of aluminum under it. Most of the noise sounds like it's coming out of the tank rather than from under the floor where the pump is, but then you'd probably hear the pump through the pickup and return. I'm guessing it's probably the pump - was hoping for something easier. Didn't know if there were any fluid additives that might help the seals. The machine probably sits one or two months between times I use it. Anyone got a service book on this they want to sell? It's a 71 series serial # machine.
