Looking at a couple of vastly different machines. One is a TD 15C, well maitained, low hours, cab heat and air priced in the low 20's. I dont know much about the IH/Dresser dozers any info on things to look for, parts support, horsepower etc would be appreciated. Other one is a JD 450C, I've heard horror stories about JD dozers, dont know much about them. Its got 3500 hrs, 50% UC, 1 owner, new JD crate engine priced in the high teens. Looking for a general land clearing machine and to do a little work for hire. Any info on either machine appreciated.

The JD450 is the standard small 'dozer, the benchmark against which all small 'dozers are rated. I am not sure about the JD horror stories, lots of them in my area and everyone likes them just fine. The biggest thing is the dry clutches sticking on the older ones when they set a long time, but the newer ones have wet clutches and thus don't have that problem. The TD15 is a bigger machine, but don't know too much else about them. Not too many IH 'dozers in my area. I wouldn be afraid of getting the Deere 450 if that size 'dozer floats your boat.

On a TD15-C the biggest and most costly things are the undercarriage, tracks, rollers, sprockets, idlers. I guess the same would be true on the 450. The cost of each item is greater on the larger machines, although you can do much more work in an hour.
Parts are easy to come by from a Komatsu dealer. There are many places selling used parts too. A great place for TD15 parts is Collins Tractor in Dresden, Tn. They have aftermarket and used parts. Nice people

Had some land clearing done 7 years ago. The guys used td 15c's. They did a good job, seemed to have good power. Our sec road dept was trying to sell 1 this spring asking 15000.00 had a new rear end in it, no cab.
