Can anyone recommend a good book or web site on crawler lingo. Whats a salt track??? LPG??? Whats the differance between a Cat D598J and D528U??? etc., etc., etc., Also a value referance guide. These things seem to be easy to find for Agriculture wheel tractors but not for track layers.

Hey Walter cant help you on a website or anything but can tell you about salt and lgp S.A.L.T. stands for sealed and lubricated tracks they actually have oil in the rails to lubricate them supposedly to give longer service life and they do cut down on the noise alot, and I assume you are talking about LGP instead of LPG (liquified petroleum gas) LGP stands for low ground pressure these will have a wide track pad on them (kinda like a Pontiac huh, wider is better lol) they are used to distribute the weight of the machine over a wider area thus you dont put as much pressure on the ground.
