Hey guys, i really need some help. I have a small problem (hopefully) with my 1970 jd450 crawler. The problem is that my brake petal wants to stick down when i use it and now recently the brake seems to drag really bad when i back up. I can be moving forward and push in the clutch and the machine will roll a foot or 2 before stopping but, when i back up it stops immediatly when the clutch is pushed in and also pulls the engine down pretty good when backing up. i hear a dragging sound while backing up... maybe like a brake shoe with no material left? anyway, any help will be appreciated! thanks, Ron.

I've though of drilling and adding grease fittings to my 450 where the steering shaft enters the case.

BTW, Can anyone tell me how to adjust the steering clutch and brake bolts on an old JD450?

Simple answer.....Brake pivots..Start at the brake pedal , lube it with PB Blaster..The shaft goes thru the clutch housing..Lube both sides...Next ,The steering levers , lube them up.. Under the seat , you will find the linkage where it goes thru the steering clutch housings on both sides.. Finally , the cross shaft inside the steering clutch housing , has a "knuckle" that pivots on the shaft while another "knuckle" is fastened to the shaft..One of the knuckles has to pivot freely on the shaft..This is common on a machine that sits a lot..
