I'm disassembling the machine as per the service manual to change the steering clutches, without removing the final drives. Split the track, removed the tank unit, linkages, sprocket, removed the clutch drum set screw. Took off the final drive bearing quill and am trying to remove the final drive pinion shaft without much success. When I try to pull it out the pinion shaft inner bearing backs up against the bull gear and thats where it stops. Is this inner bearing supposed to be a slip fit on the pinion shaft? That would allow the shaft to be removed leaving the bearing behind the bull gear. If so, then the bearing is stuck on the shaft. What am I missing here? Thanks, Geoff

it is supposed to be a slip fit,but they can get stuck. i normally slide a punch in along the gear against the bearing give it a few whacks while pulling on pinion and it comes right out.make sure you have removed set screw from steering clutch drum.good luck

720 in pa.,Really appreciate your reply, thanks much- brought home a long punch ,more than a little hammering and out it came. I think it would be a good idea this far into it to change the pinion shaft seals. Can they be changed with the final still bolted up? I'm guessing they could be installed from the steering clutch housing side? I've read that on reassembly use anti seize everywhere -Not grease- and it should be fine.
Thanks again, Geoff

Thanks for the help. Now just to chase down parts and start to put this thing back together. Probably aftermarket discs and a hub, used, new or whatever I can get. Geoff
