Has anyone access to a wiring diagram for 1990 a grey cab project 7 JCB 3CX? If so I'd ask for a copy - all reasonable expenses re-imbursed naturally.

Ideally I'd like a workshop manual, but the only source I've found is the local JCB dealer who wants almost what I paid for the machine plus most of my blood and several limbs!

(m/c serial number is 360536 if that helps)

AJK, Thanks for that - much appreciated. I'll give them a whirl when the machine is delivered. What are do you cover with your JCB repairs?

Well I usually go anywhere as I cover most run of the mill plant,am only around the corner from you Streatham but have been laid up for a while due to age and ill health, can't take anything on at the moment.
Good luck with your investment

The buzzer will come on if the oil pressure drops,if the temperature rises, if the air filter clogs,if the alternator belt breaks or the alternator stops charging,if there is a problem with the alternator the buzzer will not go off and rev counter will not work, probably by changing the alternator will fix the charging, buzzer and rev counter, you can get a service exchange alternator just before the Blackwall Tunnel South side
Ranburn Ltd
243, Tunnel Avenue, London, SE10 0PT Tel: 020 8858 3197 They do fuel injection, starters and alternators, you may have a source nearer you, make sure the alternator you get has the terminal for the rev counter, the way the fuel gauge works is when the key is switched on power is sent to one side of the gauge, the ground is made through the sender unit in the tank, find the sender unit, take off the wire and ground it,the gauge should now read full with the key on,if it does the wiring and gauge are ok and the problem is with the sender unit, apart from making sure that the unit is making good ground there is not much you can do with it except replace it after making sure its failed.
Good Luck
AJ

AJK,I've been in touch with the 'local friendly dealer' they are making the very generous offer of selling me the workshop manual for £270 and no less !!! Problem is I've not been able to penetrate beyond their front line staff and talk to a proper person, ie engineer.

I've recently acquired the machine and will be trying to sort out several non working bits of the electrics including rev counter not working, chsrging circuit non functional, fuel guage non functional and the alarm buzzer sounding despite ok oil pressures. M/C not yet delivered, those are just what I found test driving it pre-sale. All the hydraulics seem sound.

IIRC you are somewhere arround London? I'm currently SE London (Bromley) but the m/c will be going to my new place in East-Sussex
