I have a 955k torque converter overheating after about 2 hours of working. It will cool down after idling for 15 minutes. I have change the guage, filter, and checked the oil level and screen to see if any metal is in it. All checks OK. The engine is not overheating and the tractor pushes well. There is a valve on the side of the torque converter that diverts oil to the cooler. Is this clogged or stuck closed? Can it be cleaned? What do I check next? how do I check pump presures or flow. Thanks in advance.

Rick you can check the pump pressure at the 3/4"hex plug on the filter housing, need a 9/16"NF STOR Boss fitting on your hose and a 600 psi gauge. Pressure should be around 300 to 350 PSI. The pressure should hold 90% of high idle reading at low idle. Likely the pump is worn out. Pump is on LH side with steering pump piggey backed on it. If you have a big pressure drop check the pump and if it's worn come on back with description before spending any money on it.

Bob, The pump has 350 lbs pressure at low idle and 340 lbs at hi idle. I keep hearing of a thermostat on the oil line at the cooler. However, I can't seem to see it from the left side of the engine. Also a temperature reading across the in and out lines at the cooler show a 10 to 15 degree drop shortly after the torque warms up. Is the thermostat an "in line" one or is it mounted to the cooler where the belly pan has to come off. Hope you can help.
