Anybody out there had problems removing the engine oil pump from a JD 450 engine. I removed the gear nut and two pump cap screws per the shop manual. Pump body came out OK, but the input shaft will not separate from the drive gear...Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The "input shaft" is tapered and they do get tight sometimes, I've got a puller that I use if the engine is out, if not, a thick body chisel between the gear and front plate driven up snug then install the nut back on flush with the end of the shaft and rap it with a hammer.
