I need to replace the sprockets on my 1150. The previous owner replaced all the under carriage but not the sprockets and I want to change them before too long to keep wear down.
Can the sprockets be replaced without breaking the tracks?
I did not see a master link or any way to break the tracks, what am I looking for?
Brian

Another thing to check is if someone put a set of "Berco" tracks on it. If they did there could be one link that looks like a zig-zag crack or saw tooth in the chain, if thats the case just remove the 4 pad bolts after you release the track tension.

You could try as there is nothing to lose and a lot to gain, remove the gease drain valve from the adjuster, put a block of hardwood in the sprocket and slowly reverse back, this will pull back the idler and you would be letting the adjustment off anyhow if you were splitting the track, you would need the slack to rejoin it,when you have the idler back fully and got the block of wood out get all the slack of the track to behind the sprocket, block up the track in front and behind the top roller, jack up the machine just enough to clear the sprocket at the bottom, lift the track off the teeth at the top and secure the track firmly, keeping your hands away from between the track and sprocket undo the bolts and remove the sprocket, that is of course you have enough slack,I think you will,if not you will have to find the master pin,I think its highly unlikely that anyone would put in anything else but the master pin as they come with new chains, you will have to clean the end of every pin to find it,it will either have a dimple or a raised centre depending on the make but it will differ from all the rest,it will save a lot of labour if you can get it on without splitting and its worth a good try.

The master link has a small drill mark in the end of the master pin...Kind of like a deep centerpunch mark into the end of the master pin..If there is no master pin showing , someone might have installed a standard pin..If thats the case , just pick out any pin , drive it out and you will need to grind or cut the protruding bushing so it's flush [ flat] with the link..Then purchase a master pin kit from an undercarriage dealer..This kit contains a master pin , belleville washers [seals]..Also check for sealed and lubricated tracks [ SALT] ..The track shoe bolts hold the links together where you are supposed to split the track....
