I have a 1972? D4 w/ less than 1800hrs. rebuilt pony motor, both run good. comes w/ winch and many new parts. Illness forces sale. Not completly back together but can hear motors run. Would I be better off to part out or sell as complete unit.

You might want to check the serial number. I'm not sure but I think a 1972 would be direct electric start. If you can post the serial number on here someone will be able to tell the year and other info about your D4. Dave

Most of us would think of a D4 as either a crawler tractor or a dozer, you must have a HT4 if its a traxcavator, its more likely to be 1952 than 1972.

It would be an HT4. I have a page out of a Cat manual that shows when different loaders were made. The problem is I only have part of the second page that shows the HT4 as 7U but the years made is missing. It is listed at the very beginning of the 955 series which I believe came out in 1955. The 1952 is probably a pretty close guess. Someone should have Cat serial numbers on here. Dave

It would be better if it was back together and offer it for sale as a machine ready for work to bring you top $,you might consider have a mechanic put on the rest of the bits and make it ready for work, get all the details off it and put it on ebay with a picture, serial number and location, parting out is a slow process and would be my last option,I would sell it as is rather than part out.Hoping your health improves.
